Inaugural Lecture – Professor Julian Eaton

Video

In his inaugural lecture on reimagining global public health through global mental health, Professor Julian Eaton reflected on the impact of recent cuts to international development. He spoke about the pressure these changes place on health services and communities, and how they are also prompting important conversations about more equitable, sustainable ways of working.

He also set out how global mental health can help shape a new public health architecture. He highlighted the importance of centring the voices of people with lived experience, recognising how culture shapes our understanding of health and illness, coproducing research, rethinking funding, and tackling the commercial drivers of poor health.
